Service Health

Service Health keeps an eye on the outside systems your school relies on, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and ClassLink, and can post a help desk banner on its own the moment one of them has a problem. When a service is having a bad day, your team sees a clear "this is a known outage" notice instead of fielding a wave of tickets and wondering whether the problem is on your end.

Manage1to1 checks these services for you, so turning this on adds no work and no slowdown on your side. When a service recovers, the banner clears itself automatically.

Permission required

To open and configure this page you need the Manage Service Health permission. It is granted to the same roles that manage your other Help Desk settings.

Where to find it

Service Health lives in the Help Desk area:

  • Go to Settings, open Help Desk, and select the Service Health tab, then Open Service Health.
  • Once monitoring is on, a Service Health link also appears under Support Center in the left menu, so your team can check current status in a click.

Turning it on

Service Health is off by default. On the Service Health page:

  1. Switch Monitor Service Health on.
  2. Leave every service selected to watch them all (including any services added later), or pick just the ones your school uses.
  3. Choose How to Handle an Outage (see below).
  4. Choose Raise a Banner For: any disruption, or full outages only.
  5. Save.

Select Check now at any time to refresh the status immediately instead of waiting for the next automatic check.

Choosing how an outage is handled

How to Handle an Outage decides where a banner appears when a watched service is down:

  • Banner in the admin area only (default): your staff see it inside Manage1to1. Good for "heads up, expect related tickets."
  • Banner on the user portal only: the people who submit tickets see it, which cuts down on duplicate reports during a known outage.
  • Banner in both the admin area and the user portal.
  • Do not show a banner: status is still tracked on this page, but nothing is posted anywhere.

Raise a Banner For sets how serious a problem has to be before a banner goes up. Choose Any disruption or outage to hear about everything, or Full outages only to keep things quiet unless a service is fully down.

Reading the status

The Current Status panel lists each watched service with its state:

StatusWhat it means
OperationalThe service is reporting no issues.
DisruptionThe service is reporting a partial problem, such as slowness or some users affected.
OutageThe service is reporting a major problem.
UnknownStatus could not be determined right now (for example, the service's own status page was briefly unreachable).

Each service links out to the vendor's own status page if you want the full details.

What the banner looks like

When a watched service crosses your chosen threshold, Manage1to1 posts a banner that names the service and whether it is a disruption or an outage, with a note that the notice will clear on its own. These banners are not dismissible, because they reflect live status: the banner disappears the moment the service is reported healthy again.

Service Health banners use the same banner area as your other Help Desk alerts, so an automatic outage notice and a message you post by hand sit together and look consistent.

Only tell the families who should hear it

If you choose a user portal banner, remember it shows to everyone who visits the portal. Many schools keep outage banners in the admin area only, and reach for the portal banner during a widespread outage when cutting duplicate tickets matters most.
